| Well, things have gotten even more crowded and weird here in South Carolina. On wednesday, Brandyn moved down from Ohio. He lost his job and hasn't been able to find anything else, and could no longer afford to live on his own. So he's moved i here, too. So now he and I have to share a bedroom. Very weird having to share a bedroom with my brother, but oh, well.
We've spent the last several days moving everyone and everything around. I was sleeping in the smaller room (the computer room), and Mema had the slightly larger guest room. Now Mema is in the smaller room, the computer is in the dining room, and Brandyn and I are in the larger guest room. Mom and Phil bought a second twin bed so there are 2 twin beds in the room Brandyn and I are sharing. We had to move all Mema's stuff over to the computer room and all my stuff to the guest room, and change some furniture around, find new places for some pieces of furniture, and put together a bed that came with very vauge instructions.
It's been a little crazy here the past few days, but I think we've got everything taken care of now.

| Mema came home from the hospital yesterday afternoon. Obviously, she is doing much better. We decided against rehab. A home health nurse will be coming to do physical therapy at the house. Still don't really know what was wrong in the first place.

| Mema is in the hospital again - this time because she had what seems like a mini-stroke, but that is not actually what's wrong. Sometime Friday night she woke up scared because she didn't know where she was or who she was or who Mom (her daughter) was. This has happened before and she has gotten better within a couple days. This time, she wasn't eating or drinking, so finally Monday morning Mom and Phil took her to the ER. 11 hours later she was finally admitted and placed in a room. She still didn't know who she was or who Mom was, but she did understand she was in the hospital.
Yesterday, she didn't even realize that Mom was there.
Today, she knew who Mom was and even let Mom help her drink some, so maybe she is getting better.
I just talked with Mom via IM, and she said that Mema is going to have to go into a nursing home for some rehab when she gets out of the hospital. No clue yet when she will get out of the hospital or long she might have to be in the nursing home.
But things are looking a little better than they did yesterday and Monday. Monday night I was really worried.
So please keep her in your thoughts/prayers for a little while. She is 85 years old and going downhill rapidly. She is the only grandparent I have left, and I know she doesn't have a heck of a lot of time left. | | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| So next weekend (Aug 1st) there is a big family reunion for Phil's side of the family. Because someone has to be there to take care of Mema, Phil was going to come up here by himself and go to the reunion, and Mom was going to stay home with Mema. Mom told me yesterday how upset she was that she couldn't come up here with Phil, because she wasn't going to be able to see her grandchildren who live in North Dakota who are coming here for the reunion. She hasn't seen them in about 4.5 years. She said she has even cried over this a few times in the last couple days, and my mother does not cry very often.
So last night I decided to see if they were willing to have me come down there starting next week to babysit Mema so they could both come up here together. They agreed and now I just have to get my rakes fixed (they've been grinding for a little while now). Luckily, I know someone who can do the repairs and double luckily, my step-brother works in an auto parts store and can get me a discount on the parts.
Long story short, I will be in SC for 2 or 3 weeks - not sure exactly how long. I will be able to check email and LJ, but not much else as their internet sucks. Feel free to call or text me. | | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |
| So, thre,e weeks ago I went to the rheumatologist and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. She put me on Cymbalta, which is supposed to help manage my depression and my pain. She gave me samples to last 1 month. I tried to take the prescription she gave me to the pharmacy to get it filled, but they said that my insurance needed prior authorization. I called the doctor back right away and let them know.
A week or so later I get a letter from my insurance saying that they are not going to cover Cymbalta until they have proof that I have tried and failed a 30 day trial of Neurontin (a pain med) and 2 (not just one, but two) 60 day trials of certain depression meds. I was already on one of those depression meds, so I have proof for that one, but I haven't tried any of the others so now I have to try and fail on one of them for 60 days. The earliest appointment I can get for the doctor who prescribes the depression meds (Dr T) is Aug 24! This means if I do not get in earlier to see Dr T, I am going to have to wait 3 months before I can get approved for Cymbalta. I am hoping to get in earlier because I put my name on the cancellation list.
I was on Neurontin several years ago and it did nothing for me, so I am not overly hopeful that this is going to help. Also, this time I am only on 300mg; when I was on it before I think the dose was 2400mg. I just took the first one (have to take it at bedtime), so we'll see.
I am just so frustrated with all this crap - my insurance trying to be doctors, being in pain all the time, being exhausted all the time. I'm also having a hard time concentrating on things for very long. And now I am starting to have problems with my hands - my thumbs are locking and popping every morning when I wake up, and trying to type or use the mouse at the computer for very long makes my hands stiff and makes my fingers and wrists ache.
I'm starting to miss out on stuff - like going to the fireworks on the 4th. Since barbarianfiend lives near the fairgrounds, we were all just going to park at her house and walk over - a matter of a few blocks - and I didn't feel like I could handle that, so I didn't go. I avoid using the restroom at another friend's house because I cannot handle going up and down her stairs.
I'm just really tired of this. I feel like things are slipping away from me, and there is nothing I can do. I feel like crap all the time, and the meds are not helping enough/at all.
I'm going to bed now. Hopefully I will sleep good tonight.
